High starting torque – Slip ring induction motor can provide high starting torque due to the presence of external resistance in the rotor circuit.
High overload capacity – Slip ring induction motors have high overload capacity and smooth acceleration during heavy loads.
Low starting current in comparison with squirrel cage motor – The additional resistance in the rotor circuit increases the rotor impedance hence reduces the starting current.

Magneto ignition system components




Magneto: The core component of the system, the magneto, consists of permanent magnets or electromagnets attached to a rotating armature. As the armature spins, it induces a changing magnetic field in the ignition coil, which generates the necessary electrical energy.
Ignition Coil: The ignition coil is a transformer with two windings: the primary winding and the secondary winding. The primary winding is connected to the low-voltage circuit, while the secondary winding is connected to the high-voltage circuit. The collapsing magnetic field in the primary winding induces a high-voltage current in the secondary winding.
Contact Breaker (Points): The contact breaker, commonly referred to as “points,” is a mechanical switch that opens and closes as the magneto’s armature rotates. The opening and closing of the points interrupt the current flow in the primary winding of the ignition coil, creating the rapid magnetic field collapse necessary to induce high voltage in the secondary winding.
Condenser (Capacitor): The condenser, also known as a capacitor, is connected across the points to suppress arcing when they open. It helps extend the life of the points and improves the overall performance of the ignition system.
Distributor (Optional): In some magneto systems, a distributor is used to route the high-voltage current from the ignition coil to the appropriate spark plug at the right moment. The distributor ensures that the spark occurs in the correct cylinder in multi-cylinder engines.
Spark Plugs: The spark plugs are the endpoints where the high-voltage current is delivered to create a spark across the spark plug gap. The spark ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.
High-Tension Leads (Spark Plug Wires): High-tension leads, also known as spark plug wires, are insulated wires that carry the high-voltage current from the ignition coil to the spark plugs.
Grounding System: A grounding system ensures proper completion of the electrical circuit, allowing the spark to occur. It includes components like grounding straps or wires.
